Troy Parrott bagged a brace to help AZ Alkmaar to a 4-1 victory over Utrecht in Sunday's Eredivisie encounter.
The victory moved Parrott's side up to third place in the Dutch top flight, just four points off the lead shared by Feyenoord and PSV Eindhoven.
Parrott opened the scoring for the home side with an early strike in the sixth minute and doubled his tally, and Alkmaar's lead in the 34th minute.
Alkmaar were already three up by the time they were awarded a 60th-minute penalty, and although Parrott stepped up to attempt to claim his hat-trick, he was unable to convert.
Utrecht pulled one back before Mees De Wit added a fourth late in the game to seal the victory.
In Serie A, Roma enjoyed a 1-0 win on the road at Saauolo, however, Evan Ferguson was an unused substitute. Paulo Dybala scored his first goal of the season as Roma move level on points with Napoli at the top of Serie A.
